A working premise
Good field notes preserve the setting around an observation: the timing, the materials, the interruptions, and the questions that remain. This notebook is a place to keep those edges in view.

Place, sequence, tools, weather, time pressure, and interruption are often the material that makes an observation useful again.
A useful record gives another person, or a future version of you, enough detail to revisit the question without recreating the entire day.
